The Tao means the way or the path. Lao Tzu explains that the ultimate reality is known only when “Being” is known, when the ultimate essence of life is experienced. He says that the Tao is eternal and nameless. It is without attributes, beyond relativity. All forms arise from the formless. All manifested reality comes from the un-manifested Tao.
To know the Tao is to possess the key to all that exists because everything arises and eventually merges back into the Tao. To reveal the Tao is to be authentic, real, essential. The Tao always remains beyond the body, mind and feelings as the essential constituent of all that exists.
Lao Tzu teaches that we must go beyond opposites and differences to know reality. To know the Tao, Lao Tzu points to the heart as your starting point.
